SIAMESE WELLNESS DAY

Welcome! to the Bangkok Breast Cancer Support Group’s Wellness Day 2008!!

This year, on the 1st of October, the Bangkok Breast Cancer Support Group, together with the BNH Hospital, will hold our “Siamese Wellness Day” at the British Club. BBCs organize a function every October, to observe international breast cancer awareness month. In keeping with our title of Siamese Wellness, the event will focus on the holistic approach to good health and wellbeing using Thai traditional methods of stress relief and relaxation.

Our key note speaker for the day will be Dr. Kris Chatamra, Managing Director of the Queen Sirikit Center for Breast Cancer. As one of the leading authorities on breast cancer in Thailand, his lectures are always well attended and informative. But, most importantly, they are reassuring and compassionate to women who have had breast cancer and provide accurate and valuable information to those who have a dread of the disease.

Natural and organic food and drinks, and traditional herbs to relieve stress and induce relaxation will be actively promoted on this day. It is very often said that a calm and contented mind can promote wellbeing and happiness. With this in mind we have tried to incorporate many Thai traditional methods of relaxation and stress relief.

There are many workshops planned for this years’ event, and one popular workshop will be traditional Thai massage and reflexology which greatly contributes to feelings of relaxation, thus reducing stress, which further leads to the lowering of blood pressure etc. A walking meditation workshop will be introduced for the first time and is sure to draw a lot of attention. Lotus flower folding, making of flower garlands, and fruit and vegetable carving  are also thought to help in reducing stress levels and will be demonstrated.

The day’s other workshops will include, learning how to make a herbal press to relieve joint  and body pain, and the many uses for pandanus leaves, making eco friendly kratongs, basket weaving using water hyacinth reed and you can do all this while sipping on a drink made from Thai herbs and flowers!

For the more artistically inclined, there will be Thai music to listen to, flower arranging, and fabric painting. Mini facials using many local products, and mixing of different types of aromatic oils (aromatherapy) to help relieve stress will also be demonstrated.

A wonderful morning tea and lunch with western and Thai food will be provided by the British Club. This is included in the donation of B500/- for the day.

To finish off the day, treat yourself to Thai fortune telling! What better way to find out if our holistic remedies will make a difference to your life!

So do come along and have a fabulous day, enjoy the workshops, food, drink, music and atmosphere, while also helping us spread the message of breast cancer awareness.
